Techno-Logic – atvise® rocks Stockholm's Arenas
Event halls merge in terms of SCADA
OSG and SGA bring Swedish arenas up to date with Bachmann technology
Together with its customer SGA Fastigheter AB, Open System Group AB (OSG) has successfully equipped the Stockholmsarenan and the Stockholm Globe Arena (currently named Tele2 and Avicii Arena) with atvise® SCADA from Bachmann. Thanks to atvise®, these two prestigious sports and entertainment arenas in Sweden now have modern web SCADA technology based on an open platform that offers both the owner and operator flexible options.
Unified SCADA System for Stockholm Arenas
The Stockholmsarenan and the Globe Arena in Stockholm, two iconic multi-purpose arenas, were equipped with different control and monitoring systems. The owner, SGA Fastigheter AB, had decided to migrate both facilities to a unified SCADA system to create a modern web solution based on an open platform. In addition, improved planning tools for event management were required, such as optimized heating, ventilation and air conditioning system for different sports and entertainment events, more detailed floor plans and increased data collection and analysis capabilities.
Comprehensive portfolio
In June 2020, system integrator OSG began implementing the turnkey project, which covered almost all aspects of implementation, such as software and hardware delivery, programming, commissioning, and testing. The aim of the project, which was completed in December 2023, was to set up an atvise® SCADA system as a powerful and flexible web SCADA solution.
As part of the project, OSG contributed a wide range of products and services, including a redundant server solution with atvise®, in which two physically separate but virtually linked servers ensure high performance and maximum availability of the SCADA application. One of the requirements for this project was to also provide the data in an MS SQL server provided by the customer. Thanks to the openness of atvise®, OSG was able to create its own modular and reusable components to easily synchronize alarms and historical data with an external database. A separate component was also implemented that enables notes to be added to displays. This increases efficiency in operation and facilitates the exchange of information between different operators.
Standardized Integration with atvise®
Various elements were developed to ensure a standardized appearance and user experience across all used software solutions, including a JavaScript library, a library with HTML modules, numerous specific operating and interaction elements, online map views, navigation and menu structures. The versatility of atvise® enabled seamless integration of these components. „The external event scheduler was embedded in atvise® as a web application, using the same web components as in atvise®,” continues Magnus Raunio. To increase interoperability, an existing fire alarm system was implemented and numerous S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers based on OPC UA were integrated.
The result: Cost and Performance Benefits
OSG undertook the full range of programming and design work for all graphics and created a catalogue of symbols for atvise® based on the Swedish standard for system components. Once the project was completed, the entire SCADA system and the monitoring of the Stockholmsarenan and the Stockholm Globe Arena were successfully combined under atvise®. This led to significant improvements in operational flexibility, performance, reliability, and operational efficiency. The number of service calls required was significantly reduced, which in turn saved costs.
Plans for the future
In view of the great success of the project, OSG is now planning to continue the work by integrating further small arenas such as Hovet and Annexet in Stockholm into the atvise® SCADA platform that has been developed.
