atvise webMI - The Web Server Specifications

By providing guidelines for unified usage of pure web standards (not by creating new ones!), atvise webMI ensures that every certified web server - no matter from which vendor - can be used as a server for web HMIs. By defining which web formats have to be used, atvise webMI allows the free exchange and combination of the created HMI’s across any product borders. For example: You can, for instance, combine HMIs of single machines or PLCs in one complete screen, or simply integrate them in your SCADA HMI.

atvise webMI delivers full HMI functionality down to a broad range of devices. The web server delivers data and HMI directly. The result: no more need to implement additional communications.

atvise workflow

The guidelines of atvise webMI can easily be implemented in nearly every device - without the need for any code or executables of atvise.

Functional certification levels

To ensure maximum interoperability and the possibility to allow for the capabilities of the different target devices, atvise webMI releases different certification levels:

Basic Level
Basic communication via read / write access (polling). Only for
simple purposes and very small devices.
Advanced Level
Fully event-driven data exchange. Session-based user handling including security.
SCADA Level
Similiar to "advanced" but includes access to scada-typical information and functions (alarms, historical data, ...).
Multipoint Level
Multipoint servers allow for the access of data from other web servers and act as concentration points.

Engineering Process

Every atvise webMI compliant server can be engineered with the atvise builder. The atvise builder provides you with professional HMI design options and allows you to add even sophisticated dynamics, just with a few mouse clicks. And what is more, it is part of the free downloadable atvise edition!

Open Standard Format, Protocols & Tools

w3c to webmi standards

The atvise builder generates and uploads the HMI-Files - strictly using only pure web standards:

  • SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics): This format is XML-based and the official W3C recommendation for vector graphics in the web. It enables sophisticated, resolution-independent graphics with the possibility to add on dynamics and user interactivity.
  • HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol): The standard web communication protocol.
  • ECMA Scripting Language (aka JavaScript): Standardized as ISO/IEC 16262 and used by nearly every web browser.

The atvise webMI engineering tool and the atvise webMI script libraries ensure full cross-browser functionality (and yes, we even support MS Internet Explorer without any plug-in!).

Every component can provide a native web HMI that is available everywhere!

With atvise webMI technology, vendors are able to turn their devices into servers for a fully web-based and powerful visualization that can be used on nearly any endpoint.

every device is a server

Open Web Standards Make All The Difference!

The use of official web formats and standards help save engineering, maintenance and migration costs and opens up new possibilities:

  • Seamlessly exchange your HMIs between products and standard software (Corel Draw, Illustrator, CAD,...).
  • Runs in nearly every web browser - use it on your Windows or Linux PC, your Apple Mac or iPhone, your workstation, or wherever you want.
  • Resolution-independent vector graphics including zooming functions.
  • Event-driven data exchange via standard http protocol.
  • Unleash to power of today's web browser. The fastest script and graphics engines with a functionality that is growing daily!
  • Use resources from the internet (components, video, maps, ...) - we natively use the same technology.
  • Maximum scalability: Combine HMIs from different vendors and plant levels as you like.
  • Extend your possibilities - even if our product does not support it.
  • Stay independent - migration or increments will be easy and everything you build is product-independent!
  • Participate in the ongoing development of the internet.
  • Today you can print your HMI pages - with the web-technology you can save them directly in the browser or simply send a living HMI to your support with an e-mail.
  • Build open standardized object libraries and exchange them via the web and show them live.
  • Reuse everything you build in future tools & architectures.
  • Combine the native HMIs with any web technology you want. Integrate your own java applets, videos, etc..

open standards adv

The open web standards advantage: More flexibility - product independence - more functionality
